Discover Texas
West Texas contains two very different mountain settings in this selection. Guadalupe Peak and Bush Mountain belong to the Guadalupe Mountains near the New Mexico boundary, while Emory Peak stands in the Chisos Mountains within Big Bend country. The result is a desert mountain enquiry spanning a substantial part of the state's western region.
The Guadalupe pair share a close geographical relationship and the story of a high escarpment above the surrounding desert. Emory brings the much more southerly Big Bend landscape into the journey. The distances are therefore part of the plan, not a detail to hide: these three peaks make sense as distinct anchors for exploring West Texas, rather than as a single compact summit circuit.
