Discover Alabama
Alabama's uplands sit at the southern end of the Appalachian landscape, where long wooded ridges give way to broader valleys and lower plateaux. Cheaha, Chandler Mountain and Monte Sano draw attention to different parts of that country: the Talladega area, the hills near Steele and the elevated ground beside Huntsville.
This selection is spread across northern and eastern Alabama rather than concentrated on a single ridge. Its appeal lies in that changing setting, from Cheaha's mountain skyline to Chandler's rural plateau and Monte Sano's relationship with the city below. It suits an enquiry centred on forested scenery and several contrasting bases, rather than a continuous summit traverse.
