Discover South Carolina
The Blue Ridge escarpment gives northern South Carolina a much more mountainous character than the state's coastal landscapes suggest. Sassafras Mountain, Table Rock and Pinnacle Mountain all belong to this northwestern upland region. The selection brings the state highpoint together with two recognisable landmarks around the Table Rock landscape.
Sassafras lies near the North Carolina boundary, while Table Rock and Pinnacle create a closer pair to the south. Their relationship gives the enquiry a compact regional identity rooted in the escarpment and its wooded foothills. The journey is about the way the mountains rise above the lower country, with each named summit contributing a different local setting rather than being presented as part of a single established circuit.
