Discover New Mexico
The Sangre de Cristo Mountains provide a high country backdrop to northern New Mexico's valleys and historic towns. Wheeler Peak, Truchas Peak and Santa Fe Baldy create a north-to-south selection within that mountain system. The grouping connects three recognisable summits while keeping a clear relationship with Taos and Santa Fe.
Wheeler anchors the northern part of the enquiry near Taos, Truchas occupies the country between, and Santa Fe Baldy brings the focus towards the southern mountains above Santa Fe. This is a regional mountain journey rather than a continuous route linking the names. Forested slopes, high basins and the contrast with the lower valleys give the selection a distinctly northern New Mexico identity.
