Discover Georgia
Georgia's Blue Ridge mountains provide a wooded southern Appalachian setting for Brasstown Bald, Blood Mountain and Springer Mountain. These names connect the state's highest mountain country with two prominent landmarks of the Appalachian Trail. The result is a regional grouping with a strong north Georgia identity, distinct from the state's lower landscapes farther south.
Brasstown Bald stands near Hiawassee, Blood Mountain lies around the Neel Gap area, and Springer is farther southwest at the Appalachian Trail's southern end. Their positions create a journey across the mountain counties rather than one ridge traverse. Forested slopes and the changing valleys between them are central to the experience, with each summit bringing a different relationship to the surrounding countryside.
