These named Cerros lie east of the Paraguay River, in the country's hillier half. Their modest relief contrasts with the broad Gran Chaco plains farther west, offering a local upland setting without the high-altitude character of the distant Andes.

Paraguarí's hills form individual landmarks within eastern Paraguay's rolling countryside. They belong to a landscape of river catchments and low uplands, not the Andean chain along South America's western side. The distinction between these eastern hills and the low Chaco across the Paraguay River is fundamental to the country's physical geography.
