Three Peaks in South America

Follow South America’s mountain geography from the Andes to the Brazilian and Guiana highlands, exploring three summit journeys by country.

Mountain landscapes across South America

The Andes form the dominant mountain belt along western South America, running through a succession of countries and landscapes. East of the Andes, the Brazilian and Guiana highlands offer different forms of upland country, separated from the western ranges by vast river basins. A national Three Peaks selection is therefore best understood within its own region rather than as a sample of the whole continent.

The country pages distinguish these settings and place each named summit on a geographical map. Compare the positions before choosing an enquiry: a group of mountains in one range can occupy a very different setting from isolated highpoints elsewhere. The directory is organised around the places themselves, allowing you to begin with a country and then examine the individual mountain grouping in more detail.
