Three Peaks challenges in Vanuatu

Vanuatu's islands are mostly volcanic and mountainous, with narrower coastal plains. The island chosen matters greatly, because the archipelago's high ground is spread across separate tropical Pacific landscapes.

The landscapes of Vanuatu

Vanuatu's larger islands are mostly volcanic and mountainous, with narrow coastal plains around their interiors. The high ground is divided between separate islands rather than linked across one continuous landmass. This gives each mountain group its own setting within the southwestern Pacific archipelago.

The tropical climate is influenced by seasonal trade winds and rainfall patterns. Coast and interior sit relatively close together, but they present different forms of terrain. The island selected is therefore central to understanding a Vanuatu mountain landscape, alongside the wider maritime geography around it.
