Three Peaks challenges in Solomon Islands
The Solomon Islands include rugged mountainous islands as well as low coral atolls. The larger islands' interiors offer a distinct upland setting within a widely spread tropical Pacific archipelago.
The landscapes of Solomon Islands
The Solomon Islands combine larger rugged islands with some much lower coral atolls. Mountainous interiors are therefore a major feature of parts of the archipelago, without describing every island. The surrounding Pacific separates the highland landscapes into individual island settings.
A tropical monsoon climate influences the country, with relatively little seasonal temperature variation. The distinction between high islands and coral atolls is more useful than treating the whole archipelago as one mountain destination. Coastal margins, interior slopes and the sea between islands all shape its geography.
