Discover Papua New Guinea
Mount Wilhelm and the other selected elevations belong to Papua New Guinea's mountainous interior. This is a substantial upland region rather than a narrow coastal ridge, separated from the lower shoreline by rolling foothills and pronounced changes in relief.
Wilhelm stands in the Bismarck Range, part of the highland spine of New Guinea. Valleys and mountain basins break up this interior, which has a very different scale from the smaller offshore islands. The grouping brings that central highland geography into focus around one of its best-known mountain landmarks.
