Three Peaks challenges in Nauru
Nauru rises from a coastal ring toward an elevated coral interior. This compact Pacific island offers a landscape of plateau and shoreline, rather than an extensive range of mountains.
The landscapes of Nauru
Nauru rises from a narrow coastal ring towards a raised coral interior. Its compact landscape is organised around shoreline and plateau rather than valleys and mountain ranges, and its modest high ground should be understood at that island scale.
Command Ridge forms part of the raised interior, above the coastal strip around the island. The plateau's coral limestone origins distinguish it from the volcanic mountains found on some other Pacific islands. Nauru's relief is compact and modest: coastline, escarpment and interior plateau describe it more accurately than a collection of mountain ranges.
