Three Peaks challenges in Haiti
Haiti's rugged relief occupies much of the western part of Hispaniola. Mountain chains and the valleys between them create substantial changes in landscape over relatively short distances within the country.
The landscapes of Haiti
Haiti's mountains occupy much of the western part of Hispaniola. Ridges and valleys create a pronounced relief that contrasts with the coastal lowlands, and the country's southern and northern uplands have their own distinct geographical settings.
Pic la Selle belongs to the Chaîne de la Selle in the southeast, while the Massif de la Hotte occupies the western end of the southern peninsula. The Artibonite valley and northern ranges form another setting. Haiti's mountains therefore create several regional landscapes rather than a single ridge across the country.
