Three Peaks challenges in Luxembourg
Luxembourg brings together northern uplands and more gently rolling country farther south. Valleys and wooded hills give this small inland destination its landscape character without the scale of a major alpine range.
The landscapes of Luxembourg
Luxembourg's northern uplands contrast with the more open rolling country of the south. Valleys cut into the higher ground, giving this small inland country a landscape of ridges, wooded slopes and local highpoints rather than an alpine mountain system.
The northern Oesling belongs to the Ardennes uplands, where river valleys cut into higher ground. Southern Gutland has a softer rolling landscape, including the country's principal settled areas. The Sûre and its tributaries help define these regional contrasts, with wooded slopes and valley sides often more visually distinctive than isolated summits.
