Three Peaks challenges in Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein combines the Rhine valley with steep alpine ground in a very small territory. Its eastern mountains provide a compact highland setting between Austria and Switzerland, distinct from the lower valley floor.

The landscapes of Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein combines the low Rhine valley with steep Alpine country within a small territory. The western valley floor forms a clear contrast with the mountains to the east, giving the principality a compact but strongly varied landscape.

The Rhine forms the western boundary, while the country's Alpine interior rises towards Austria in the east. Grauspitz belongs to the southern mountain border with Switzerland. The contrast between the settled valley floor and steep upland terrain is unusually concentrated here, with much of Liechtenstein's geographical identity contained within that transition.
