Three Peaks challenges in Oman
Oman's northern and southern mountains rise apart from a broad central desert. The Hajar and Musandam landscapes offer a distinct contrast to the coastal lowlands and the different seasonal setting of Dhofar.
The landscapes of Oman
Oman's mountains occupy distinct northern and southern regions around a broad central desert. The Hajar range rises behind northern coastal country, while the Musandam Peninsula has its own rugged setting beside the Strait of Hormuz.
The Hajar Mountains extend across northern Oman, with Jabal Shams in their western part. Musandam forms a separate northern peninsula of steep coastal relief, while Dhofar's mountains rise near the southern coast. Broad desert country separates the northern and southern systems, so each mountain region belongs to its own distinct geographical setting.
