Three Peaks challenges in Uganda
Uganda is largely a plateau edged by mountain country. Its higher eastern and western landscapes provide contrasting settings within an inland country strongly shaped by lakes, rivers and elevated plains.
The landscapes of Uganda
Uganda's broad plateau is edged by mountain country, with distinct higher landscapes towards the east and west. Lakes and river systems occupy important parts of the interior, so the uplands sit within a wider elevated basin landscape rather than above a coastal plain.
The tropical climate generally includes two drier periods, while the northeast has more semiarid conditions. Uganda's mountains therefore belong to different regional settings around the plateau. The relationship between high ground, inland waters and elevated plains is central to understanding the country's physical geography.
