Kadam and the other selected elevations focus on Uganda's eastern uplands. This region belongs to the mountain rim of the broader plateau, distinct from the western Rwenzori setting and the lower landscapes around the country's principal lakes.

Kadam occupies the southeastern part of Karamoja, within Uganda's dry eastern highland margin. The surrounding plains make the local mountain groups stand out as individual landforms. This regional setting is distinct from the glaciated Rwenzori massif across the country and from the broad lake country farther south on the Ugandan plateau.
