Three Peaks challenges in Nigeria
Nigeria's southern lowlands rise toward central hills and plateaus, with mountains along parts of the southeast. These uplands offer a different geographical setting from the northern plains and low coastal country.
The landscapes of Nigeria
Nigeria's coastal lowlands rise inland towards central hills and plateaux, while mountain country also follows parts of the eastern and southeastern margins. Northern plains provide another contrasting setting, so the country's uplands are not confined to one continuous range.
The Jos Plateau occupies central Nigeria, while the Mambilla Plateau lies towards the eastern border. Chappal Waddi belongs to the high country near Cameroon, separate from both coastal lowlands and northern plains. The Niger and Benue river systems divide much of the lower interior, providing another geographical contrast with these upland regions.
