Three Peaks challenges in Mozambique
Mozambique's long coastal lowlands contrast with western mountains and northwestern plateaus. The country's higher landscapes are concentrated inland, offering a different geographical focus from its Indian Ocean shoreline.
The landscapes of Mozambique
Mozambique's long Indian Ocean coast is bordered by extensive lowlands, while much higher ground lies inland. Central uplands, northwestern plateaux and western mountains create a pronounced contrast with the country's maritime landscapes.
Monte Binga belongs to the Chimanimani mountains on the western border with Zimbabwe. Mount Namuli occupies a separate northern interior setting, while the Zambezi cuts across lower central country. These separated uplands rise above very different surrounding landscapes, with broad plateaux and river basins between them and the long Indian Ocean coast.
