Three Peaks challenges in Guinea
Guinea rises from a relatively flat Atlantic coastal plain into a hilly and mountainous interior. Its inland highlands offer a different landscape from the lower, more humid country beside the ocean.
The landscapes of Guinea
Guinea rises inland from the Atlantic coastal plain into a landscape of hills and mountains. The change in relief is one of the country's defining geographical contrasts, separating the low coastal setting from the more elevated interior.
The Fouta Djallon uplands in central Guinea are important headwater country, where rivers descend towards the coast and neighbouring inland basins. The Nimba mountains occupy a separate southeastern borderland. These two settings give Guinea distinct upland identities, with plateau country in the interior and more concentrated mountain relief towards Nimba.
