Discover Nzerekore

The selected mountains lie in Guinea's southeastern upland country near neighbouring Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. This setting differs from the Atlantic coast and the Fouta Djallon farther northwest, illustrating the separate mountain regions within Guinea's varied terrain.

Guinea's interior is also important as a source of major West African rivers, including the Niger. The Nimba area adds a different border landscape to that national picture, with mountain relief continuing towards neighbouring countries rather than ending at administrative boundaries.
