Jan Bassi Gado, Mazaroni Top and Ebba Top belong to Suriname's interior uplands. Their setting differs from the narrow swampier coastal belt, with named elevations rising within the broader hilly landscape of this tropical part of northern South America.
Suriname's inland hills belong to the Guiana Shield, an ancient continental landscape shared with neighbouring countries. Rivers drain this elevated interior towards the Atlantic coastal plain. The selected highpoints occupy different parts of that inland terrain, where extensive forest and river basins give the hills their wider geographical setting.
