Discover Imbabura
Cotacachi and the other selected mountains occupy northern Ecuador's Andean interior. The highland setting lies between the Pacific-facing west and Amazonian east, within the mountain belt that divides these two much lower and climatically different parts of the country.
Elevation moderates Ecuador's tropical latitude: conditions become cooler in the high Andes than on the Pacific coast or in the Amazonian lowlands. This northern group occupies the sierra, the central highland region separating those two lower environments on either side of the mountain belt.
