Three Peaks challenges in Honduras
Honduras is dominated by interior mountains, with narrower plains along its coasts. Inland highlands offer a contrasting setting to the warmer coastal lowlands and form the natural focus for mountain exploration.
The landscapes of Honduras
Honduras is predominantly a country of interior mountains, bordered by much narrower coastal plains. Its long Caribbean shoreline and short Pacific coast frame a varied inland landscape, where uplands and valleys occupy much of the territory.
Cerro Las Minas belongs to the Celaque highlands in western Honduras. The mountains around La Tigra occupy a different central setting near Tegucigalpa, while the Caribbean lowlands extend towards the north and northeast. Those changing surroundings give the western and central uplands distinct identities within the country's broadly mountainous interior.
