Three Peaks challenges in Monaco

Monaco occupies a small, steeply placed section of the Mediterranean coast. Its almost entirely urban territory is a coastal destination, with larger mountain landscapes lying beyond the principality's boundaries.

The landscapes of Monaco

Monaco occupies a small and steep section of the Mediterranean coast. Its territory is almost entirely urban, with hills and rocky slopes closely integrated into the built landscape rather than forming an extensive area of open mountain country.

The Rock of Monaco projects above the sea, while the territory climbs inland through densely built slopes. Mont Agel rises nearby in France, outside the principality. This boundary is important for mountain browsing: the surrounding Riviera uplands provide a wider regional setting, but they are not a range contained within Monaco itself.
