Three Peaks challenges in Moldova
Moldova is a landlocked country of rolling ground and low hills between major river systems. Its landscape offers gentle changes in relief rather than the dramatic mountain settings found farther west in the Carpathians.
The landscapes of Moldova
Moldova is a landlocked country of rolling terrain and low hills between the Prut and Dniester river systems. Its landscape has gentle changes in relief rather than the large mountain ranges found farther west around the Carpathians.
The Codri hills occupy central Moldova, with Bălănești within this gently elevated country. The Prut lies along the western margin and the Dniester defines much of the eastern setting. River valleys and rolling divides account for much of the visible relief, giving Moldova a hill-country identity rather than an extension of the Carpathian mountains.
