Three Peaks challenges in Ireland

Ireland's rolling interior is ringed by rugged hills, low mountains and coastal cliffs. The southwestern ranges offer concentrated high ground within a landscape strongly influenced by the Atlantic.

The landscapes of Ireland

Ireland's rolling interior is bordered by hills, low mountain ranges and a deeply varied coastline. The southwestern mountains sit especially close to the Atlantic, while other upland groups occupy quite separate parts of the island.

The MacGillycuddy's Reeks belong to Kerry's southwestern mountain country, close to Atlantic peninsulas and lakes. Connemara's quartzite mountains occupy a different western setting, while the Wicklow Mountains lie south of Dublin. Ireland's separated ranges each have a recognisable landscape, with coastal exposure, broad uplands or enclosed valleys shaping their character.
