Three Peaks challenges in Turkey
Türkiye's central Anatolian plateau is surrounded by several mountain systems and narrower coastal plains. Interior uplands and maritime regions create markedly different settings for a mountain journey across the country.
The landscapes of Turkey
Anatolia's high central plateau forms the core of much of Türkiye's landscape, surrounded by several mountain systems and narrower coastal plains. The Black Sea, Aegean and Mediterranean margins offer maritime settings that differ from the elevated interior. The country's ranges belong to different regional contexts.
Conditions are generally harsher inland than along the coast, where maritime influences moderate the climate. Hotter, drier summers and wetter winters characterise parts of the coastal setting, while elevation adds further variation. Understanding the plateau and its surrounding ranges helps place individual Turkish mountain destinations in context.
