The landscapes of Qatar

Qatar projects into the Persian Gulf as a low desert peninsula. Much of its surface is flat or gently changing in level, with coastal margins surrounding an arid interior. The small differences in elevation do not form a high mountain system comparable with the upland regions elsewhere in Arabia.

The climate has very hot summers and milder winters, with coastal humidity adding to the desert setting. Qatar's landscape interest lies in the relationship between peninsula, shore and inland desert. A destination enquiry here concerns that low-relief environment, rather than a conventional circuit of three mountain summits.
