Three Peaks challenges in Palestine
Palestine's geography includes the uplands of the West Bank, the Jordan Valley and Gaza's coastal plain. These distinct landscapes should not be treated as a single continuous mountain setting.
The landscapes of Palestine
The West Bank's dissected uplands descend towards the Jordan Valley, creating a pronounced contrast between high ground and the lower eastern landscape. Gaza occupies a different setting on the Mediterranean coast, with a low coastal plain rather than a continuation of the inland mountain country.
Elevation influences temperature and rainfall across the uplands. Summers are generally warm to hot and winters cooler, but these broad conditions differ between higher terrain, the Jordan Valley and the maritime coast. The geographical distinction between these regions is central to understanding the destination.
