Three Peaks challenges in Nepal
Nepal rises from southern plains through middle hills to the high Himalayas. The Khumbu region belongs to its northern mountain world, where expedition objectives differ fundamentally from lower valley and hill journeys.
The landscapes of Nepal
Nepal rises from the southern Tarai plains through middle hills into the high Himalayas. This compressed north-to-south transition creates very different landscape regions, from broad river country to deeply cut valleys and immense northern mountain ranges.
The Annapurna region lies west of the central valleys, while the Khumbu occupies a separate eastern Himalayan setting. Between the high ranges and the Tarai, the middle hills contain deeply divided river country. These parallel but varied zones give Nepal more than one mountain landscape, even where the great northern summits dominate attention.
