Discover Nasu Three Peaks
The Nasu mountains offer three sharply contrasting summits within one volcanic landscape. Chausudake is the active volcanic centre, Asahidake has a more rugged, rocky profile, and Sanbonyaridake is the highest of the Nasu peaks. Japan’s Ministry of the Environment identifies these three together in its Nikkō National Park mountain itinerary, making the combination especially coherent for a focused visit.
The appeal lies in how quickly the character of the scenery changes between the peaks. Bare volcanic ground, rocky ridges and greener mountain slopes are all part of the same setting. Nasu’s hot spring area gives the wider journey another dimension beyond the summits. Enquire about a Nasu itinerary suited to your group and the season, with the day’s objectives considered alongside current volcanic information and the conditions in the national park.

The three summits
Chausudake
Chausudake is Nasu’s active volcanic peak. Its bare volcanic scenery contrasts with the two other summits in this itinerary.
Asahidake
Asahidake is the rocky, sharply defined summit of the Nasu trio. It stands between Chausudake and Sanbonyaridake.
Sanbonyaridake
Sanbonyaridake is the highest summit in the Nasu mountains. Its greener slopes give it a different character from volcanic Chausudake.
