Doddabetta, Mukurti and Anginda focus this destination on southern India's Nilgiri uplands. Their setting is entirely different from the Himalayan north, belonging instead to the elevated southern peninsula and the mountain landscapes near the meeting of several state boundaries.

The Nilgiris form part of the mountain country at the edge of the southern peninsula, above the surrounding lower plains. Doddabetta, Mukurti and Anginda draw attention to different parts of these uplands, where the southern monsoon climate shapes the landscape.
