Three Peaks challenges in Georgia
Georgia combines the Greater and Lesser Caucasus with low country opening toward the Black Sea. Mountain valleys and river basins create strong regional contrasts within a relatively compact territory.
The landscapes of Georgia
The Greater Caucasus forms Georgia’s high northern mountain setting, while the Lesser Caucasus lies to the south. Between them, river basins and lower country give different regions their own character. Shkhara belongs to the high northern frontier, but a Georgian mountain enquiry need not centre on the highest summits; choosing a valley provides a more precise regional starting point.
