Three Peaks challenges in Morocco
Morocco combines the Rif, Atlas ranges and broad plateaus with Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. The High Atlas forms a distinctive mountain setting between the lower northern country and the drier south.
The landscapes of Morocco
Morocco's mountains include the Rif along the north and the Atlas systems farther inland. Between them lie plateaux and valleys, with Atlantic and Mediterranean coastal plains adding further contrasts. The southern country becomes progressively drier towards the desert.
The Rif follows the northern Mediterranean region, while the Middle Atlas lies inland to its south. The High Atlas forms a larger mountain barrier farther south, including the Toubkal massif. Beyond it, the Anti-Atlas has a drier setting, creating a sequence of distinct upland landscapes rather than one undifferentiated Atlas range.
