Three Peaks challenges in Kenya
Kenya rises from low coastal plains to central highlands divided by the Great Rift Valley. Its mountain regions form part of an elevated interior that contrasts with drier country farther north and east.
The landscapes of Kenya
Kenya rises from Indian Ocean coastal lowlands into an elevated interior divided by the Great Rift Valley. Central mountain regions and western plateaux contrast with the drier northern and eastern country, making the choice of region fundamental to a landscape journey.
Mount Kenya stands east of the Rift Valley, while the Aberdare Range occupies high country nearer its eastern margin. Mount Elgon lies on the western border with Uganda. These separated uplands overlook different basins and plains, giving Kenya several mountain landscapes within the wider elevated interior rather than one continuous summit chain.
