The landscapes of Eritrea
The highlands form a north–south spine, with a steep eastern descent towards the Red Sea. Western Eritrea opens into lower hills and plains, creating another change in the country’s relief. A journey centred on the uplands would explore a distinctly different environment from the coastal desert, making altitude and regional choice especially important when browsing possible mountain destinations.
