Mount Gimie and the other selected high points belong to Saint Lucia's volcanic interior. Broad valleys separate parts of the mountain terrain, while the surrounding coast remains relatively close in this compact Caribbean island setting.
Gimie belongs to the central high ground rather than the coastal Pitons near Soufrière. The other named elevations extend the focus into the island's southern interior. This brings attention to Saint Lucia's wider volcanic landscape, where valleys and inland ridges account for much more of the relief than its famous coastal silhouettes.
