Discover Azores
Pico and Cabeço Gordo belong to different islands in the Azores, with Alto do Chão adding another named highland location. The sea between the islands is central to this grouping, which spans Atlantic volcanic landscapes rather than a continuous mainland ridge.
Pico's prominent volcanic cone contrasts with Faial's broader central Caldeira. Cabeço Gordo stands on Faial's elevated crater landscape, surrounded by slopes descending towards the coast. Together, the two islands show different volcanic forms within the central Azores, with an Atlantic channel separating their mountain interiors rather than a connecting valley.
