Olympus gives this group a strong northern Greek mountain focus, while the other selected high points occupy different nearby uplands. Their setting belongs to the mountainous mainland, distinct from the country's numerous island landscapes and narrower coastal plains.
Mytikas is the precise summit objective on Olympus, distinct from neighbouring Skolio and Stefani. The massif rises close to the Aegean coast, bringing a strong maritime influence to its mountain climate; the limestone heights can experience sudden fog and storms.
