Botrange and Weißer Stein belong to Belgium’s eastern uplands, while Baraque de Fraiture lies farther southwest. This is a landscape of elevated plateaus and rounded high ground, contrasting with the much flatter plains towards the Belgian coast.

Belgium's high ground is modest in elevation but geographically distinct from the coastal plain and central rolling country. A humid, often cloudy climate shapes the upland setting. Weißer Stein refers here to the named wooded highpoint, distinct from the nearby quartzite boulder that shares its name.
