Dachstein, Hochkönig and Hochgolling occupy different parts of Austria's Alpine country. Their grouping spans more than one mountain block, reflecting the wider pattern of ranges and intervening valleys rather than a single ridge or a compact cluster of neighbouring summits.
Alpine valleys break up the high ground into distinct massifs, while Austria's lower eastern regions have a different scale of relief. Mountain winters are snowy, and summer weather can include showers. The three locations belong to that varied Alpine environment rather than sharing one valley approach.
