Discover Sanaa Governorate
The selected mountains focus on Yemen's western high country near Sana'a. Their setting contrasts with the hotter coastal plain and the much drier eastern interior, occupying the mountainous transition between those two different Arabian landscapes.
The Sana'a basin sits within an extensive elevated landscape, with Jabal an Nabi Shu'ayb rising nearby. These western mountains form part of the escarpment country above the Tihama coastal plain. Inland basins and sharply divided uplands give the region a different character from both the Red Sea shore and eastern desert plateaux.
