The selected high points belong to Sierra Leone's inland uplands, contrasting with the mangrove belt and lower Atlantic-facing country. Their setting forms part of the transition through hills and elevated plateaus towards the more pronounced eastern and northern relief.
The Loma and Tingi uplands are distinct inland mountain settings, well removed from Freetown's coastal peninsula. Sankanbiaiwa belongs to the eastern high country, while Loma Mansa points towards the northern interior. Their relationship is regional rather than one shared ridge, within the rising terrain approaching Sierra Leone's boundary with Guinea.
