Discover Sao Tome Island
Pico de São Tomé anchors this group on the larger of the country's two main islands. The other selected elevations belong to the same mountainous island setting, with coastal margins and surrounding ocean providing the contrast to its higher interior.
São Tomé is a volcanic high island, with a steep interior rising from the Gulf of Guinea. Its relief differs from a coral atoll or a low continental coastal plain. The selected mountains remain on São Tomé itself; Príncipe, the country's other principal island, has its own separate volcanic landscape across the sea.
