Discover Southern Province
The selected high points belong to Rwanda's hilly interior, with mountain terrain generally more pronounced towards the west. This is a compact landscape of uplands and valleys rather than a widely separated chain of distant mountain systems.
These locations concentrate on southern and southwestern Rwanda, away from the Virunga volcanoes in the far northwest. The wider landscape includes the high country around Nyungwe and the divide between major river basins. Ridges, cultivated hills and enclosed valleys give this part of Rwanda its distinctive regional pattern.
