Discover Oromiya

Chilalo and the other named high points belong to Ethiopia's highland setting. The country contains extensive elevated terrain divided by the Rift Valley, so this group provides a regional focus rather than attempting to link its widely separated principal mountain systems.

Ethiopia's tropical monsoon climate varies strongly with topography. Valleys, plateaus and higher mountains do not share the same environmental setting even at similar latitudes. Oromia's uplands form one part of this varied highland system, separated geographically from the northern ranges around the headwaters of the Blue Nile.
