Discover Bioko Norte
Pico Basilé anchors this group on Bioko, distinct from Equatorial Guinea's mainland territory. The island's mountainous volcanic interior rises within a humid Gulf of Guinea setting, with the ocean separating this landscape from the country's continental hills and coastal plain.
Bioko and the mainland region are separated by the Gulf of Guinea, so they do not share one continuous mountain landscape. A persistently hot, humid tropical climate surrounds the island's uplands. Basilé's volcanic setting is part of this island geography, not an extension of the mainland plateau.
