Discover Atakora

The Atakora area gives Benin a different landscape from its lower coastal country and plains. These named high points belong to that northwestern upland setting, where the relief forms a particular regional feature rather than the dominant terrain across the whole nation.

Benin's narrow north–south extent crosses a notable climatic transition. The coast is tropical and humid, while northern areas become more semiarid. Atakora's hills belong to this inland end of the country, beyond the coastal lowlands and southern plateau landscapes.
